New Noize all up in your business. This weekend reality set in and I am just amazed at whats going on here in the good ol USA. Goating North Korea into a nuclear war and empowered white supremacists in Virginia have me pretty blue, but at least Game of Thrones and New Noize exists. 

Despite the stress of the world events I personally found solace in one of the best gatherings I have been to this year. I’m talking about my music programmer, DJ extraordinaire and one of my great friends Mr Dave Hanacek got hitched this past Saturday. As bummed out as I was with all thats going on, Saturday night showed that when friends and family come together everything else is just noise. I was also seated at the Radiohead table, it was pretty rockstar. Fellow DJs Phat J & Ricky Biggs were in the house and whenever the radio fam hangs power levels exceed 9000. 

Lets talk New Noise. This Sunday I started on the metal side of things and smoothed out as the hour progressed.

At the top of the second hour I dropped some music from the Dead Cells soundtrack, an indie game I DESPERATELY want to be ported onto the PS4 (and the vita LOLz). Currently Dead Cells is available on Steam and from the videos I have watched it looks like a freaking good time. I also circled back to music from Tokyo 42 as this game is finally coming out this Tuesday August 15th on the Playstation. New Noize playlist coming at ya once again! A lot of new stuff to get into as per the norm. My surprise of the week has to be that full length by the Mosquitos, its like a cool drink on a humid night filled with fire flies and starry night skies, definitely worth a listen. As is everything else on this weeks playlist.

VIVA LA FIESTA!!!! For those not in the know on all things Santa Barbara, which is the majority of you, its Feista time! What is Fiesta? Its a celebration “of the American Indian, Spanish, Mexican, and early American settlers that comprise the rich cultural heritage of Santa Barbara”. Its full of amazing foods, mariachi music, dolled up ladies doing cultural dances, confetti eggs and mad beers yo. Its also when tourist and locals covey on this little beach town and over run us with hiked up cover charges, high uber/cab rates and so much trash. It can be a nightmare or a dream depending on your location and how hungover you are.

What are my plans for Fiesta week here in SB? So many tacos will be consumed, Gojira down in Ventura Theater tomorrow and Raekwon at Soho this Friday. I also have a wedding this Saturday so my social cup overfloweth with awesomeness. 

And YES there was a New Noize as there is every Sunday. Am I worried about Game of Thrones and inevitable NFL season taking my precious audience? NOPE, New Noizers are dictated fans that rule and I love all 3 of em.

This week brought a good mix of new singles as well as diving deep into some full lengths. Had to kick off the show with a jamming track by Mister Heavenly and got deep on the New Cage the Elephant but the surprise track from hour 1 came from a band called “The Kickback”. Listen to “False Jeopardy” and tell me you don’t like it and I will tell you flat to your face that you are a lair. Another groovy track that is in constant rotation on the personal iPod (yes I still use my iPod and its the greatest piece of gear I have owned for the past 10 years or so) is KAYE “Cheshire Kitten”.

Kicked off hour 2 with new Chelsea Wolfe and MAN I need this new record in my life. Hopefully the new album sounds like the 2 singles she has released. Other shining singles new to New Noize that you should immediately listen to is Purity Ring, Protomartyr and METZ. I FINALLY got the full length from Dead Cross (thanks ipecac) and the mad audio scientist known as Mike Patton has done it again. Dead Cross features Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer, Misfits, Suicidal Tendencies), Justin Pearson (The Locust) and Michael Crain (Retox, Festival of Dead Dear). If your a fan of Mr. Bungle or music in general go for a ride with Dead Cross.

Surprises! I know I told y’all that there wasn’t going to be a New Noize this past Sunday but I got back early and made a late night audible, thus I was live this Sunday. FYI Big Bear is beautiful.

With that out the way like always New Noize was in full effect. I had A-LOT to choose from and tried to fit 4 hours of music in my 2 hour set. One day I will learn the secrets of time and will be able to bend it according to may will. 

People ask me if I’m scared that Game of Thrones will be taking away my New Noize audience now that the show is back on-air. Not really cause if you are GoT in SB and aren’t watching the east coast feed then you’re doing it wrong. 

Talking about GoT WTF are the creators on when announcing their new “Confederate” show? I want to preface this, I am a HUGE fan of Game of Thrones and think that this alternate timeline of the south succeeding from the Union and “modern day slavery” would be an interesting and compelling drama that the creators of GoT/HBO can pull off. My problem is that the creators of GoT can not and have not put minorities, especially black actors in roles without slavery attached to their heritage. Lets take the remaining black actors as well as the only black actors that have speaking parts on GoT. I am talking about Grey Worm & Missandei. Both were slaves that were liberated from the WHITE “Breaker of Chains” Daenerys Targaryen. The only other black actor I can think of that had a main roll was Salladhor Saan who was a pirate and wait for it, a former slaver turned pirate. Minorities don’t last very long, ask Khal Drogo and Prince Doran Martell. Would it have been cool to see the House Tyrell be portrayed by Japanese actors, YOU DAMN STRAIGHT IT WOULD BE!!! Also has anyone seen any East Asians in this show? Seems like Westeros went through some ethnic cleansing prior to this storyline. 

Which brings me back to this new “Confederate” show that they are going to create. If the GoT creators are reading this (you didn’t know they were New Noize fans did ya) there are other ways of portraying black actors without giving them a heritage of slavery. How about making a new fantasy or horror series with a predominate black cast. How about a fantasy storyline where the Ottoman Turk Empire stretched around the globe? Or if the Aztecs beat the Spanish? The alternative historical storylines are endless but the Game of Thrones creators decided that another TV series about white supremacy becoming the ruling class needs to be portrayed once more. I get it, this is about whats going on in the world today. An artistic look an the current state of affairs. Guess what HBO, I don’t need another TV show about white people ruling, that is the REALITY of my world here in the USA. Be a bit more creative.
